The Inspection of a Century: Wagner’s Ring in Kassel
At
Staatstheater Kassel , Germany, a tradition of staging Wagner's
"Ring" has long been established. In the early seventies producer
Ulrich Melchinger
introduced a Wall Street atmosphere and the forms and colors of pop
art to the sphere of the "Ring". In the eighties Siegfried
Schoenbohm took up
the tetralogy. This "Ring" went through many centuries and different
styles.
Michael Leinert's "Ring", produced within two
seasons (1997 – 1999), continued this specific Kassel dramaturgy of
presenting the "Ring" from a
modern point of view. Leinert’s interpretation of the "Ring"
represented "one hundred years of German history".
Wagnerian soprano Susan Owen-Leinert (Brünnhilde) presents together
with her husband an insightful look at this exciting RING production
of
Staatstheater Kassel with numerous video and audio excerpts.
